COO, Sanoma Media Netherlands
Henk Scheenstra (47), has more than fifteen years of experience in media. After working as a consultant he moved to the client side, starting at VNU in The Netherlands, where his main responsibilities lay in the field of M&A. After that Henk moved to Malmberg, a leading Dutch educational publisher, where he was asked to turn around the secondary educational business unit. Then Henk went to the leading Dutch magazine publisher VNU Magazines (later sold to Sanoma), to become Marketing Director, and member of the Board. A few of his accomplishments were: several acquisitions and divestitures, successful implementation of SAP CRM and a large scale reorganization of the marketing organization. Later Henk became Managing Director of AKN, the leading Dutch TV Listings publisher. There he trimmed the organization and focused more on innovation, resulting in a successful magazine launch and a dominant position of the digital tv guide. Then Henk was asked to take a Board position (COO) at Sanoma Media Netherlands, being responsible for all magazine media. This job involves both continuous optimization as well as innovation. A few successful innovations and growth initiatives are: the launch of Flow (magazine concept), Bladcadeau (leading magazine subscription giftcard in NL), acquisition of a leading Content Marketing player and Tijdschrift.nl (the leading digital magazine kiosk in NL, also selling competitors’ magazines). Just recently Henk’s team has acquired an e-commerce player, to complete Sanoma’s presence in the Home Deco field: from Inspiration (magazines) and Information (web) to Commerce. The latter is a good example of the Digital Transformation Sanoma is going through at the moment.
Sanoma Media is with its magazines, customer media, events, websites, mobile sites, apps and e-com the largest media company based on reach in The Netherlands. Sanoma (67%) owns with its partner Talpa (33%) the SBS TV assets in The Netherlands.
Sanoma Media has an extensive portfolio with over a 100 different brands including AutoWeek, Donald Duck, delicious., Flow, Kieskeurig.nl (comparison), Libelle, Margriet, NU.nl (news), and many more.
Sanoma Media Netherlands B.V. is part of the Sanoma Group, an European media group operating in several media sectors in twenty countries, listed on the Helsinki stock exchange.
